Sandals Jamaica all inclusive -forget about everything
On 5 hectares (13 acres) of prime beachfront land a short drive east of the center of Negril, Sandals Negril is an all-inclusive, couples-only resort that attracts a basically young, convivial, and unsophisticated audience. Imbued with a beachy, fretwork-trimmed design that evokes a Victorian-Colonial theme, it's a bit more active and freewheeling than the more formal and somewhat more restrained Sandals properties in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. The casual but comfortably furnished rooms have a tropical motif and mahogany, plantation-inspired furniture, including four-poster beds. Completely renovated early in the millennium, rooms are generally spacious, each with a marble bathroom with a shower/tub combination. Most units open directly onto the beach -- in fact, of the 223 units, only 27 don't offer views of the sea. In fact, here, more than at many other Sandals, you'll be so close to the sea that you'll hear the sound of the waves throughout the night. Unfortunately, so close to the sea, hurricanes, when they come, tend to do a lot of damage, so if, during the lifetime of this edition, you hear of tropical storms hitting Jamaica, ask about the condition of this hotel before you book. Rates include all meals; snacks; unlimited drinks, day and night, at the resort's four bars (including two swim-up pool bars); and nightly entertainment, including theme parties. The Bayside is the main dining room, but guests can also eat at one of the specialty restaurants. The Sundowner offers white-glove service and Caribbean cuisine. Low-calorie health food is served beside the beach at the 4C's Grill. Kimonos features Japanese cuisine. Barefoot by the Sea, housed in a huge thatch-covered building beside the beach, focuses on seafood. Facilities: 5 restaurants; 4 bars; 2 pools; 4 tennis courts; fitness center w/saunas; full-fledged spa w/aerobics classes; airport transfers; limited room service; massage; coin-operated laundry; nonsmoking rooms; canoeing; scuba diving; snorkeling; Sunfish sailing; windsurfing. Sandals Royal Caribbean, a middle-bracket branch of the all-inclusive Sandals chain (they define it as one of their "classic," but not one of their "signature," properties) pays more frequent and deeper homage to the aesthetics and manners of the British colonial empire than any other member of the chain. Tranquil and just a bit more sedate than some of its counterparts within the same chain, it lies astride an appealing private beach. References to things English abound: Buildings bear British-inspired names that include, among others, Caernarvon, Kensington, and Arundel, and afternoon teas are widely publicized and popular, beginning at 4pm. There are modern touches as well, including a private, clothing-optional island reached by boat. The spacious rooms range from standard to superior to deluxe. Best are the grand luxe beachfront rooms, with private patios or balconies. Each unit has a small but well-equipped private bathroom with a shower/tub combination. The cuisine is more varied here than at the other Mo Bay Sandals, with, for example, Royal Thai, a Thai/Indonesian restaurant on an offshore island. The Regency and The Pavilion serve a rather good Jamaican-inspired cuisine, among other options.
